Someone writes to inform me that Martin Scorsese's next film is -- wait for it -- The Winter of Frankie Machine, starring Robert De Niro. Maybe the film will be better than the book. It won't be hard.

Someone else writes to note that Varos' Birds was painted in 1958, "not 1957." Correction made below.
