A desk of white pine, sanded to a beautiful even golden finish and signed inside: "Preston/Brayshaw/Halme, 2012." #craftsmen

I don't like much modern-radio music, but I've had this shuffling lo-fi blend of soft vocals, xylophone, and weird Eno-esque electronics on all afternoon.

Reading (& studying) Jem Southam's The Painter's Pool (Nazraeli Press, 2006), a collection of full-page, highly abstract color landscape photographs.  I'd reproduce, or at least link to, some images, but the photographs demand to be seen at contact print size or larger, and the blurry little thumbnails available at the V&A and elsewhere don't really do the pictures justice.  (A highly pixellated, not very good version of the entire sequence available here)

Setting up a new bookstore on Commercial Drive -- PFB 3.0! -- and otherwise not around much for a few days.  The stores look great right now, and improve daily.

Up the Skytrain station steps, past the steep green muddy grass.  A bare tree looming overhead.  Grey tower-block behind it. Behind that, the sky. Stray sunlight edging dark grey clouds.  A little rain falling; mixed scents of wet pavement and moist earth.  Someone sleeping under a park bench in the churchyard. Just the shape of their body turned sideways, huddled in away from the rain.
