One doesn't depend on the other -- the depictive arts don't work like that -- but I can't believe that the symmetry in the figures' poses, the frontality of that big black hole & the greenery all around is total coincidence, either.  Thierry de Duve links The Drain to Cezanne's Le Pont de Maincy (1879-00) (that hole, again! That foreground stone that seems to float free, "unanchored" in front of the picture surface!) so maybe that's another echo, too.
